A Sunday Morning Service to use at home during the Easter Season

Alleluia. Christ is risen.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia.

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He has given us new life and hope.

He has raised Jesus from the dead.

Alleluia. Christ is risen.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia.

Opening Prayer

Faithful one, whose word is life:

come with saving power

to free our praise,

inspire our prayer

and shape our lives

for the kingdom of your Son,

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers of Penitence

Jesus Christ, risen Master and triumphant Lord,

we come to you in sorrow for our sins,

and confess to you our weakness and unbelief.

Almighty God, our Heavenly Father,

we have sinned against you

and against our neighbour

in thought and word and deed,

through negligence, through weakness,

through our own deliberate fault.

We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us,

forgive all that is past

and grant that we may serve you in newness of life

to the glory of your name. Amen.

The Collect

Please find this prayer in the top left corner of the weekly sheet.

Please find these on the weekly sheet. You may wish to read all of them or you may prefer to just read the one from Acts and the Gospel.

Please find this on the back of the weekly sheet.

Affirmation of Faith

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Sing or hum a hymn you know or listen to some music.

Prayers of Intercession

Gracious God, fountain of all wisdom,

we pray for all Christian people;

for our Bishops Julian, Philip and Jill, for all Christian leaders,

and for those who teach and guard the faith.

May the word of Christ dwell richly in our hearts,

and knit us together in the bond of your love.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the leaders of the nations,

and for those in authority under them.

We pray especially for our Prime Minister,

and all members of parliament.

Give them the gift of your wisdom,

and a right discernment in all things.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the town of Burnley

for those who live and work here,

especially all our key workers.

Speak your word of peace in our midst,

and help us to serve one another as Christ has served us.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for those bowed down with grief,

fear or sickness,

especially … [name those you would specifically like to pray for]

May your living Word bring comfort and healing

to all those in need.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We give thanks for all those who have died in the

faith of Christ, remembering especially ...

[name those you would specifically like to remember].

We rejoice with St Matthew and all your saints,

trusting in the promise of your word fulfilled.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father ...

Gloria in Excelsis

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,

we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,

Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world:

have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father:

receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Closing Prayer

Most merciful God,

by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ

you delivered and saved the world:

grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross

we may triumph in the power of his victory;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.
